It's Starting

Long day at work today.  The kind of long day that can only be truly rectified by taking the long way home.  Since we won't be able to do that in a few short months, we took advantage of the situation.

When we got home, there was a box sitting on our doorstep.

WTF?

We hadn't ordered anything recently, so we figured it was for our landlady, since sometimes the postald00der can't figure out which is her house and which is ours...then we looked closely.

It was for the Toaster.

Brilliant

Thanks Auntie Cath...

In other pregnancy related news, Nena just walked in and announced.

"There's a party in my panza and Toaster says we're not invited."

Kid's doing somersaults...must really like red chile, which makes me sad...Papo likes green.
At the moment I'm sitting in a bar at the Albuquerque Sunport drinking a beer, watching the Cubs and the Brewers, listening to tunes on Leia and hanging out in teh intarweb.

Is life better than that?

Heading to Seattle to see Freesia and Nena and Toaster's godmother and the rain and the Pike Place Market and see if that one vendor is still there and if they still have that Colombian flag belt buckle...

My flight's been delayed half an hour, so I have unscheduled time to chill and catch folks up.

Life's pretty good.

The new job is pretty brills.  Long hours, not much more than what I was making at The Minuteman, but it's infinitely more rewarding.

The novel is stuck in revision.  I just need to suck it up and plow through it.  Hopefully breakfast with Freesia tomorrow will help me get going on that.

We're super excited with Toaster's imminent arrival and folks are coming out of the woodwork asking to throw baby showers for us.  For which we're amazingly grateful.  (Mamajlo, Jo, Coco, we're looking at y'all.)

To that end we've been registering for stuff and learning about what you need to raise a kid in the western world.  It's kinda cool, actually.  My folks bought us a travel system, which is supercool.  Yeah...beer kicking in...maybe I should go see if my flight is actually leaving soon...

Adventures in Pooh

Scene:  Home, Night.  Nenie and Nena are curled up in bed looking at Toaster's Babysrus registry on Leia, their iPod Touch.

Nena: Who the hell registered for a Pooh bathrobe?

Nenie: I did.

Nena:  Why?

Nenie: Because TIgger was a bit much, don'cha think?

Nena: Seriously?

Nenie: Yeah, look at that trim, tiger print.  You want Toaster to look like a baby pimp?

Nena:  I don't want to register for any Pooh shit.

Nenie: Huh?

Nena: Pooh Shit.  I don't want to register for any of it.

Nenie: Yeah, that's rational.

Nena:  No, this is how it starts.  You register for one piece of Pooh shit and suddenly everyone takes it on themselves to give you a Pooh shit theme and suddenly you have a shitload of Pooh shit.

Nenie: So you don't want to open the Pandora's Box of Pooh Shit.

Nena:  Yes.

A Living Cubs Fan's Tribute

Do they still play the blues in Chicago?
When baseball season rolls around
When the snow melts away
Do the Cubbies still play?
In their ivy-covered burial ground

When I was a boy they were my pride and joy
But now they only bring fatigue
To home of the brave
The land of the free
And the doormat of the National Leauge

-Steve Goodman

Not today Steve.
Not today...
