Final Countdown
Thursday and as such, it's time for the weekly football insanity.
Which brings me to a quick question. Would there be interest in this kinda smack during the regular season? Hell, we could even throw in some college football too. Thoughts?
But back to the matter at hand. The CheadleOffs. Seriously? They need to can those fake commercials and go back to the classics. Do we need to start a letter writing campaign to get this to happen? Man, those new commercials are painful. Even SamJack promo before the Chargers/Jets game sucked. SAMJACK SUCKED! This is how bad the situation has gotten.
OK, a quick standings recap.
1. Almejor: 6-2
2. Charlie: 6-2
3. Kevin: 6-2
4. Cody: 5-3
5. Nenie: 4-4
6. Tom: 4-0
7. Chas 1-2 +1
It's pretty much anyone in the top half's tourney to win, so good luck to you all. As for Tom, Chas and I. Yknow, smack is fun.
Seriously though? If I see Peyton Manning on the street, I'm totally telling him to cut that meat. *shakes head* Oh well, time to go down in flames
AFC Championship Game
Patriots @ Steelers
Steelers
Nice how there's a breakdown in this year's games. People v. People in the AFC and Animals v. Animals in the NFC. There's also a nice racial breakdown of the QBs by conference but that's a topic for another day.
I know, I know. I have a history of picking against the Pats and it has a history of costing me. To be perfectly honest, if I had a shot of winning this tourney of ours I'd probably pick against my heart and go with the Pats. But I can't so I won't.
The Steelers won on Halloween in the CondimentDome and I expect them to maintain. Yeah, the future Mr. Mejor is going to have a crappy game and the hottest Bostononian this side of Johnny Damon is going to look like, well, Johnny Damon but it's not going to matter. The Steel City wants this, needs this win. They've seen what's happened to their neighbors to the east and they don't want that to be them.
Plus, Cowher and The Bus don't know when they'll be back again. They want to make this one count.
NFC Championship Game
ATLiens @ Illadelph
Iggles
Yeah, I keep picking the Iggles in this gam. Yeah, I keep getting burned. You know what? I don't care. Unlike Manning, DFM is tired of losing. Yeah, he's got the Chunky Soup Funk, but he'll snap out of this one. The People's Champ has arrived- had he done it a year or four earlier and I think we'd all be thinking differently about this game. But that's not important. What is important is that the Iggles have needed someone to step up and give DFM someone to throw to. He has that now.
As for Vick. Yes, the man is fucking special. Yes, he's going to gain over 100 yards. But he can't get to the Super Bowl by himself, he needs some support to do so. ATL's O did well last week against a Rams D that couldn't stop an O stocked with me, Steve and Cody in the backfield with Chas and Tom on the wings. Things ... will be different this weekend. Trotter will see to that.
OK, thems the picks. Smack?

Crapshoot! I've looked deep into my heart and done a great deal of analysis on these two games and here's what I've come up with.
Iggles v. Falcons.
Iggles
I remain torn on this one. See the two guys I regularly watch football with are a Iggles fan and an Atlanta fan. This week the Iggles fan will be in Philly, using one of his 3 season tickets to see the game. Meanwhile I'll be stuck in a room with the Atlanta fan. For my own self interest, and in the interest of not having to go through the Stillers game alone, I should pick Atlanta (esp. so that midgame I don't forget what I've done and start openly rooting for Phili). But seriously, I'm not seeing it, I'm not feeling it, I've got to go with Phili and well, what Big Willy K doesn't know can't hurt me.
Stillers vs. Pats
Stillers
Facts:
-Roethlisberger went 17 of 30 with two huge interceptions against the Jets.
-Belichik is 13-0 with the Patriots when facing a quarterback for the second time in a season.
-Brady has never lost an N.F.L. playoff game.
-The Sox won the Series and the Bruins have yet to lose a game all season.
-The last time the Stillers won a Superbowl, I turned 6 months old (Jan 20, 1980).
I've seen the numbers, I've read every pre-game analysis to hit the NY Times and the Boston Globe, and if I see another piece on Roethlisberger's gloves, I'm gonna lose it. Yes, I know, the Stillers are not supposed to be able to win this one. Everything points to the fact that they don't stand a chance in hell. But in this world, there are some things that are more important than statitistics and facts, and among those is faith. I've got faith in the Stillers. I've got faith that quarterback that Cowher drafted, "Roethl-something". I've got faith in a safety who used dance with swords on fire. I've got faith in a running back who the entire city, except for his coach, thought was on the way out the door. I've got faith in a team that showed up to play every game of the season. I've got faith in the power of the terrible towel. And I've got faith that after almost losing everything last week, after apparently trying to end any chance at getting the one for the thumb, we're gonna come out fighting this week and that our faith will be matched by our deeds.
Nenie...help.
I went with my Dad to Best Buy last night. He bought a DVD....
"The Superbowl Shuffle."
Yes, it's on DVD. There are even outtakes and a making of. Ya know what? The Fridge wasn't so huge as I remember him being
Sad... should've buckled and made picks the unimportant weekend of the playoffs... but the bye week did me good, and I feel I came out with some good game. Granted, running the table for last week was closer to average than exceptional, but... I've got my work cut out for me now - I've gotta blow 4 picks to be ranked above nenie! Now, enough poking nenie with a stick - time to ply conventional wisdom again...
NFC Championship: Falcons at Eagles
EAGLES (Eagles -4.5)
Homefield advantage, the advantage of like what now, 3 public dress rehearsals... I really don't think the Eagles are the new Bills of the NFC Championship game. They've consistently dominated the rest of their conference for how many years now, and just not closed the deal? They're still good. They're still damn good, even without that other receiver I'd like to see rebroken. They've got the O weapons and a good D. Atlanta, you're season's been great, we know you did good for you. Don't feel bad when you pack it in, there's always next year, right? Oh, and the side pick is mostly cause a friend of mine told me anyone can pick without the spread, so, I'm gonna do both.
Superbowl: Patriots at Steelers
PATRIOTS (Patriots -3)
Somehow, ESPN.com lists the Patriots as favorites, and I I'm surprised, but I can't say I don't know why. Frankly, they've earned it over the bigger picture. Add to that the somewhat frightening performance last week by Pittsburgh, and it looks like they might've even gotten it right. I don't wanna take anything away from the Steelers, it's been nicely done, all season. No disrespect picking against them, but only one team gets to win this game. Screw "feelings" or "history" or "stats," honestly, I think the Pats are a better team, won't make the mistakes that cost them in their last meeting, and have the one huge difference-maker they lacked last year and last meeting. Even with the line, people are gonna pick against them and that's fine. Bettis is good, and I'd like to see him get a ring, and Cowher too. I just don't think it'll happen. Not this year. Not even in their house.
boy, i sure did fuck up with that vikings pick didn't i? i had a gut feeling about it, and well, my got doesn't know it's ass from it's elbow apparently. anyways, here are the picks.
Eagles Vs. Falcons.
i don't really like either team very much. i don't really like the nfc very much. in fact, i consider the afc championship to be the super bowl. plus two of my three least favorite players in the league play for these teams. i hate michael vick, and i hate TO. i just get so sick of hearing about how michael vick is the second coming, yet he can't throw for more than 150 in a game. i'd rather have a qb throw for 300 than throw for 82 and run for 119. i'm just saying. i think the eagles d is better than the falcons, i think that mcnabb is better than vick, i think that the eagles know that everyone in philly will be waiting outside the linc to lynch the team if they don't pull this one off. and i think the fear of death will be enough to motivate the eagles to win this one. eagles 31 falcons 17. EAGLES.
Patriots vs. Steelers.
welcome to the game of the year. i'm sure you all know what i'm going to pick after my ramblings last week, but i'm still going to go through the motions like i'm not going to pick the pats. the steelers should have lost to the jets, the pats completely dismantled the best offense in the league. but the steelers aren't the colts. they're going to run the ball right down the d's throat. and i think this plays to the strength of new england. with the secondary in the state that it's in the linebacking core really stepped it up, and i expect them to do so again. i just feel that the patriots cannot be stopped. they will give up points, but not to many. they will score points, but just barely enough. i expect to see brady driving them down field in the fourth and for vinatieri to win it, like he does every time they are in a game that matters. Patriawwts 23 Steelers 21. that's my pick, PATRIAWWWWWWTS!
holy shit
i need that DVD JLo
like
wow
amazing
hee hee
go tom
way to toss in the spread, yo
i really should look at those things
charlie
how many times do i have to tell you
your gut don't know shit when it comes to the NFC North
;)
Ok, Welcome to the Big Show!
Where to begin...
Well, through expirience I have found that it is best to piss Al off sooner rather than later.
Patriots vs. Steelers
Brady is the next Farve. If he EVER leaves Foxburo it had better be for Green Bay. Yeah, he lost the first one but that was without Corey Dillion. They had SIX pass attempts in the entire game...I think.
The Steelers are good, but GOD DAMN, did you see how hard the Pats hit the Colts. Edge is by no means The Bus, but still. GOD DAMN!
I'm sorry but the Steelers should have lost the last game.
Patriots.
Eagles vs. Falcons
The Aviary Bowl. The Michael Vick Expirience Vs. Mr. 17 Seconds-Chunky Soup McNabb. I'm with Al. Mike Vick could throw a touchdown pass to himself ON PURPOSE- unlike when Daunte did it.
I'm sadden by the fact that domestic crime goes up by near 20% in Philly after an Eagles' loss. I really wish TO was playing this game. I've actually come to love the guy this year. I seriously felt bad for him when they made him apologize for the Desperate Housewives thing. He actually is having fun- and mad props for making fun of Ray Lewis this year.
Man, I wish I could pick Team Vick here, but I can't bet against McNabb and I'll always have a soft spot for The Freak-Kearse.
Eagles.
And here I thought it was better to just avoid pissing me off all together. :)
heh
Why is it not game time yet?
because
the liquor gods hate you
and your ass face
;)
Ain't that the truth!
the best part of watching Vick's Top 10 plays is knowing the #1 is at the expense of the Vikings...and it is.
PATRIAWWWWWWWTS!
Illadelph for life (I'm hoping that God's from Pennsylvania)
