A Blogger's Soul's Hole
Who misses the Friday Five? I do. It's the kind of Friday where I could really have used the sucker- like Barry in High Fidelity would have said, "it'd have been a, a, a fucking conversation STIMULATOR MAN." But alas, nothing. . .
It's Friday and I, for one, am thankful. Not only is it Friday, it's Friday of Labor Day weekend; a Labor Day where I'm doing nothing and going nowhere. I'm going to sit around the house, maybe buy a lawn mower so I can mow my lawn, maybe unpack and I'm definitely going to READ. Going to get a few weeks ahead on my teaching prep and the like. Since I don't have class on Tuesdays, I actually have a FOUR day weekend, yo. It's really quite brilliant- I only hope I'm as productive this weekend as I'm planning on being. Lots of rest, lots of reading. . .lots of goodness.
Nena's parents are coming to town tomorrow, a visit that I'm actually really looking forward to. They haven't seen the house yet, and I'm excited to have them see it. . .without our BigKid furniture, of course. Because that would make us seem more together than we want them to think we are.
And with that, I'm off to teach. There's something about teaching on Fridays on this campus. Thursday is the big party night so I have a lot of students on Fridays who've seen better mornings. . .and then I teach at 1:30p on a Friday, in the classroom closest to a bar on all of campus. The bar that features it's Friday afternoon beer in a brown bag. . .
Which means I have to amp it up on Fridays, I have to come in there as fired up as my favorite undergrad prof. Granted, she is a lot thinner than me and so could look like an overexcited Muppet when she was flailing about the classroom, exuding her love of film history. With that in mind, I have a rivetting lecture about Brown v. Board. Three page outline, yo (which is a lot longer than my normal page of condensed, leave room for discussion- lib arts style, lecture. Today, I'm gonna talk a lot, and pause for questions, and have "Bueller, Bueller" moments, and make pop culture references that they're not going to get. AND I'M NOT GOING TO FEEL BAD ABOUT IT!!! Then I'm going to the liquor store and buying some whiskey and I'm gonna come home and drink a whiskey sour and play video games, or watch Logan's Run or something. YES!!! THIS IS MY FRIDAY AND I WILL SEIZE IT!!!!
So, what are you guys doing to seize your Friday? In honor of the Friday Five here's my own five for Friday.
1) Why are you glad it's Friday?
2) How are you seizing your Friday?
3) Big Plans for the weekend?
4) Throw your hands in the air
5) Wave them like you just don't care.
Answer in the comments, feel free to SPAM the universe with this bad boy. . .

1) This week was the last week before classes start again, which means every prof stops by with insanely long and tedius grunt work that absolutely needs to done by Tuesday (What do you mean, there's other work ahead of me in the queue? You're just setting up barriers! This is going to hurt the students! I'm tellllling the Deeeeaannnn on yooouuuu!). To hell with that, yo.
2) Around the neck with a strangle-grip. (Oh, wait, that's the beer bottle, not the Friday.)
3) Taste of Madison, baby.
6) And if you like fish and grits and all that pimp shit, then everybody let me hear ya say "oh yayur."
OH YAYUR
1. Because it's been a completely unproductive week, so it might as well be over.
2. Friday is pizza day at work. Is that seizing? Also going to see Kill Bill 2 for practically free.
3. The great thing about weekends is that you don't need big plans. Whatever comes my way is all right with me. Mostly, hanging out with the boy.
4. kciiogjofkjad;lka sjvvou <----- hands coming down again on keyboard
5. you know I don't. It's Friday!
1) To be honest, I wouldn't have known if you hadn't mentioned it. For the past few weeks, the days have all sort of blurred together. But, now that you mention it, I'm glad it's Friday because today is the first KSG new student pre-orientation fun outing. At a BBQ joint.
2) In all possible ways. I met with a personal trainer, will soon be shopping for the necessary supplies such that I can finishing the unpacking and arranging of my monastic cell, which means that I can FINALLY open the iPod and the Powerbook which have been sitting untouched in their boxes for the past 48 hours! (who's got the willpower? oh yeah, I do).
3) Yup. BBQ tonight. Tomorrow one of the Colorado cousins is in town and we're doing the Freedom Trail with her friends. Sunday morning I'm meeting a friend from Texas for brunch, Sunday afternoon will involve a trip to Fenway methinks, and Sunday night is candlepin bowling with KSG folks. Moday is for relaxing because orientation is on Tuesday.
1. I'm not really all that excited that it's Friday. Yeah, it's sweet that i'm not going to have to go to school until tuesday, but I've got to work on Saturday so Friday doesn't really signify all that much to me right now.
2. I don't plan on really doing anything at all tonight, although I do hear NCAA 2005 calling my name right about now. I've got to get Cal to the national championship dammnit.
3. Going down to Morris on sunday for golf and a throwdown war hell ride of a party at Fahey's house.
So, what kind of beer comes in a brown paper bag? I should head on out to the heartland of America to check out this shit.
1. Fridays are happier days and they usually hurt less (slow & easy running day).
2. Ummmm....little something call the WORLD CUP OF HOCKEY!!! I love Minnesota.
3. Work.
1.) I'm glad it's Friday because I'm still jetlagged from getting back in town on Tuesday and I CAN SLEEP!
2.) My boss took me out for pizza lunch at Lou Malnati's. It's not Giordano's...but she tried.
3.) Sleep. And (I'm embarrased to admit) playing D&D with my dad, Peter, Rufus (sister's baby's daddy), and the amazing Rando. AND SLEEP!
4 & 5) /me commences jooking. (Ghetto-ism)
3 1/2.) I almost forgot. Trying to convince Cody to be a hitman for me.
Jet Lag? You were two time zones away. Get over it, yo.
1. Because I love my Friday class. And I get to go to class instead of to work on Fridays. Yay, and yay.
2. by sitting in a freaking computer lab catching up on email, etc.
3. reading for class. drinking and rocking out. knitting. eating a dinner that doesn't come out of a box. picking up those damn time capsule envelopes. vacuuming.
4. and 5. I abstain, as I am in a computer lab.
